How to stop a social media troll

An Oregon man who tried to convince a friend to send him hate mail has been sentenced to more than a year in prison.

Shaun Pendergast pleaded guilty to three counts of malicious mischief, two counts of menacing and three counts each of making a false statement to the police and the Oregon Department of Justice.

Pendergasts, 34, admitted to sending the hate mail to a woman in Portland, who had previously complained about his Twitter posts.

He was sentenced Friday to six months in prison followed by two years probation.
